On 21 February every year, many cities of the world, especially those that are the centers of tourism, celebrate International Tourist Guide Day. The World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) established it. The purpose was raising awareness of the general public about importance and significance of guides’ work.
WFTGA was formed in 1985 at the first International Convention of tour guides, and today over 2 million people from more than 70 countries of the world are the members of this organization. The holiday is celebrated since 1990.
There is no way to tell for sure when this profession appeared, but obviously that it is connected with the development of international relations. Since people began to travel actively, to visit different cities and countries, it was hard to do without help of professional guides.
The audience became acquainted with the history of emergence of the holiday, with characteristics of the profession of tour guide and knew about the work of Bolgar Museum-Reserve.
