The painting “Bulgars’ access to Volga” refers the audience back to the past of Tatarstan, to the middle ages. It is possible to see a historical event, which took place on the territory of our region. After the collapse of the Great Bulgaria of khan Kubrat, his second son Kotrag went to the north leading a Proto-Bolgar tribe of kotrags. They stopped on the Middle Volga and in 660 formed Volga Bulgaria.
The place chosen by Bulgars was lively because of big rivers and trade routes passing here. Large economic, cultural and political centers appeared and a unique gate between East and West formed.
