On 2 July 2020, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Abdrakhmanova А. held an event on “Two religions on the same land”.
Religion plays an important role in the life of society. Islam and Christianity are the most common religious beliefs on earth. Each person is free to follow the faith of the elders. What is sacred for some should not be flouted by others. On the territory of Bolgar Museum-Reserve, there are unique architectural monuments of XIII-XIV centuries as examples of Muslim architecture of the Golden Horde period and an orthodox church of XVIII century. Once upon a time, there was a medieval town of Bolgar in this place. Throughout history, it was a great trade centre, beautiful and rich, where on a permanent and temporary basis people of various faiths lived together. Over time, entire neighborhoods developed here united not only by social status but also by religious commonality. Information on the town remained in ancient oriental books and Russian chronicles.
The event was held with a view to developing respect and careful attitude to cultural heritage of the native land, a sense of pride and tolerance for the peoples living in Tatarstan.
