On 10 February 2020, staff members of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Salimova G.I. and Gaifutdinova O.A. held a lecture on “Human behavior in a crowd” for the students of Spassky College of sectoral technology.
Mass events attract lots of people. These are festive concerts and fairs, festivals, football matches, which can threaten people’s lives. Stay in a big city also can be dangerous, more dangerous, than deserted and wild places far from civilization. A city is full of various transport modes and, in particular, subway. A stampede during the peak-hours – this problem appears every day and it is comparable to a crush at stadiums, in markets, in the queues.
There is always a lot of people at different mass events. Before the start of the concert or any other celebration, everybody behaves in a calm manner. At that time, people are peaceful, polite and give each other way at the entrance. In anticipation of a great show, they are calm and slow. However, at the end of the event everything changes. Everybody leave their seats and go towards the exit. This contributes to a large influx of people and a traffic. Sometimes movement of people becomes spontaneous and then a crowd forms. Everyone should know the rules of human behavior in a crowd. They constitute a package of measures, which help to preserve security in places with large gatherings of people. There are facts from history when a large number of people died in crowded spontaneous stampedes.
At the lecture, students knew about the main rules of behavior in a crowd, learnt some interesting facts from history, listened attentively to the material, answered the questions and expressed their views on the subject.
