On 23 January 2020, staff members of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Bitunova Y. A. and Sabirzyanova L.I. held a lecture on “Tatiana Day. History and modernity” for the students of group №9319 in Spassky College of sectoral technology.
On 25 January, our country parties two holidays – women with the name of Tatiana celebrate their Name day, and all Russia celebrates Students’ Day! The history of this day began in XVIII century. On 25 (12) January 1755, on the feast day of Saint Tatiana, Empress Elizabeth Petrovna signed a decree submitted by Count Shuvalov about establishment of Moscow University. Therefore, saint’s day of all orthodox Tatianas got a new sense: not only the faithful but also students began to celebrate it. After October Revolution, people remembered this holiday not so often. In the post-war years, students celebrated Tatiana Day at home. In the 1990s, many traditions of celebration were being revived. The holiday of Russian students was officially approved by a decree of Russian President No.76 from 25 January 2005 “About the Day of Russian students”. Saint Tatiana was named as defender and patron of young students. A fun student holiday appeared in Russia again!
At the lecture, students became acquainted with the history of the holiday and its traditions. They learnt how students celebrate this day in other countries.
