The Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve is located close to the town of Bolgar in the Spassky District of the Republic of Tatarstan, 200 kilometers south from its capital, Kazan.

It is possible to buy a tour to Bolgar offered by touristic companies located in Kazan or to travel to Bolgar independently. 

If you would like to get to Bolgar independently, it is possible to use the services of river trams departing daily from May to September from the  Kazan River Station that on 08-00 and arriving to Bolgar on  10-25. Further information is available on the web-site of the Kazan River Station. Please note that there is no possibility to book tickets online. The tickets are on sale at the Kazan River Station 10 days prior to departure. We advice you to buy tickets in advance due to the high demand for this type of transportation to Bolgar. The river tram returns from Bolgar daily on 15-40 and arrives to Kazan on 17-55.

It is also possible to use coaches departing daily from the Kazan Central Coach Station on 08-40 and arriving to Bolgar on 12-20. There are also coaches departing daily from the Kazan Southern Coach Station (Yuzhny) on 09-00 and 17-45 and arriving to Bolgar at 12-40 and 21-00 respectively. Further information is available on the web-site of the Kazan Southern Coach Station. Tickets can be bought online. Coaches return from Bolgar to Kazan daily on 6-00 and 14-00.
