The economy of the Volga Bulgaria depended to a large extend on the development of handicraft production. Such crafts include ferrous metallurgy, blacksmithing, bronze casting, pottery, spinning and weaving, leather processing (in the languages of many peoples of the world the best varieties of leather and leather shoes is called “bulgary”), copper and bone cutting crafts, wood production, etc.
