October 16, 2018 employee of the Department of Museum and educational activities Sabirova L. held an interactive event “Medicine of the Volga region of Bulgaria” for the tourist group of the city of Chita. Preserved to the present day medical writings and found in the course of archaeological research objects of material culture, as well as living traditions of folk medicine are the most valuable sources for the study of the peculiarities of the dissemination of scientific knowledge in the Volga Bulgaria and coverage of the history of medical science.
The event was held in the Museum “house of the healer”, where visitors got acquainted with the history of formation and development of traditions of medicine in The middle Volga region. Got acquainted with the work “Canon of medical science” Ibn Sina (Avicenna), on which he worked for about 20 years and which became an encyclopedia of medical knowledge of the time. We also got acquainted with the works of Taj al-DIN al-Bulgari – a famous pharmacologist and physician of the beginning of the XIII century, the only scientist who came from the Volga Bulgaria, three works of which have survived to our time. These are his works on pharmacognosy:” Simple drugs “(al-Adviya al-mufrad) – the largest in volume;” a Brief [treatise] in the knowledge of [simple] drugs “(Mukhtasar Fi marifa al-adviya) – a shortened transcription of the first;” a Large antidote ” (At-Tiryak al-Kabir). The book describes a universal means of healing-tiryak, as well as a recipe for its preparation. These writings contain the recipe of the composition of medicines and the methods of their preparation. During the event, guests received a lot of useful information and answered the quiz questions with great interest.
