Gunsmiths were a special category of blacksmiths; they produced almost all types of weapons, some of which were even exported to foreign markets.

Ibn Rustah wrote that Bulgarians were riding horses, wearing armor and using weapons.

During archeological studies of Bulgarian cities and villages, archeologists found almost all types of medieval weapons: swords, battle axes, arrowheads and spearheads, spurs, chain armor, helmets, etc.
