On September 9, a researcher at the excursion organization department of the Bolgar Museum‑Reserve N.O. Ahundov delivered a lecture titled “Language is the soul of the people” to 19 schoolchildren from Samara. The lecture was timed to coincide with the Day of the Languages of the Peoples of Russia.
For Tatarstan where issues related to language preservation are of particular importance, this topic is especially relevant. Today, according to the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, there are 155 living languages in Russia. Thirty‑seven of them have the status of state languages in the republics, and more than 100 are actively used in the school education system.
The lecture participants not only learned about the new memorable date but also discussed why it is so important to preserve the unique linguistic heritage of Russia’s peoples.
