On July 16, an employee of the department of museum and educational activities D. P. Hramov held an interactive event “Everyday life of the Volga Bulgars” for visitors of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve.
During the meeting, participants learned how the geographical location of Volga Bulgaria contributed to its economic prosperity. The location of the first capital, the city of Bolgar, at the crossroads of trade routes between the Caspian Sea and Europe, facilitated the active development of trade and crafts. The guests learned about the everyday life of the Bulgars in the 10th to 15th centuries, including their advanced farming, cattle breeding, and unique urban technologies such as water supply, sewage systems, and heating systems.
The event focused on the skills of Bulgar artisans, including leatherworking, jewelry-making, and stone and metal carving. Using archaeological artifacts, the participants were able to visualize the daily lives and activities of the inhabitants of this medieval state.
