On July 15, an employee of the department of museum and educational activities at the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L.I. held for 12 tourists an interactive event “What the old city is silent about”.
During the event, the guests learned that the city is located on the banks of the Volga River, south of the confluence of the Kama River, and south of the capital of Tatarstan, Kazan. It contains evidence of the existence of the medieval city of Bolgar, an ancient settlement of the Volga Bulgars, which existed from the 10th to the 15th centuries. In the 13th century, the city became the first capital of the Golden Horde, and it continued to be an important trading center during the period of the Kazan Khanate. The spatial context has been preserved, including an earthen rampart, various religious and civil structures, including a mosque, a minaret, baths, the ruins of the Khan’s palace and tombs.
The guests visited the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization where they learned about the museum’s exhibits, the history and development of the museum-reserve, and the research conducted on its premises. They also visited the Memorial Sign museum and exhibition complex and the preserved architectural monuments.
