On May 7, a researcher of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve I.D. Muhametshin gave a lecture “The feat of Leningrad” to the 8th grade students of Bolgar secondary school No. 1, dedicated to the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
During the lecture, the children learned about the heroic defense of the city. For 872 days, the city lived in conditions of hunger, cold, and constant struggle against the enemy. Thousands of people volunteered to go to the front. The “Road of Life” was established along the coast of Lake Ladoga to supply Leningrad. Over 900,000 people died during the entire blockade.
On January 12, 1943, Soviet forces launched an offensive and liberated Shlisselburg on January 18. This marked the establishment of communication with the mainland. It was the beginning of the liberation of Leningrad. By the end of January 1944, the troops of the Leningrad Front, in cooperation with the troops of the Volhov Front, had completely liberated the city from the enemy blockade.
Twenty people attended the lecture.
