On April 30, 2026, as part of the “Pushkin Card” project, the staff of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve held an interactive event “Bolgar is the Keeper of Folk Traditions” for students of Yakushkinskaya secondary school in the Nurlat municipal district of the Republic of Tatarstan.
During the theatrical performance, the children were immersed in the atmosphere of medieval Volga Bulgaria. The sage told the students about ancient Bolgar and its artisans whose products always embodied the history, culture, traditions, and customs of the people.
The event featured various craft workshops. Every participant could try his hand at pottery, leather mosaic, and wood burning. The students were particularly interested in making amulets with runic symbols. Drawing using the Ebru technique allowed them to create small masterpieces with unique and distinctive patterns. There was also a gastronomic master class for the children on making a special “Bolgar-style” tea where they learned how to make a fragrant blend of herbs, flowers, and berries.
For fun, there were medieval board games “Alquerque” and “Mill,” as well as a new game called “Journey to the Past,” which allowed the children to explore the streets of an ancient city and learn about its artifacts.
43 people attended the event.
