On April 28, a researcher of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve I.D. Muhametshin held for tourists a lecture on “The Mongol conquests”.
The lecture covered the journey from Genghis Khan’s early campaigns, which marked the beginning of his grand expansion, to the establishment of a vast empire that stretched from the Pacific Ocean to Eastern Europe.
An important topic of discussion was the impact of the Mongol conquests on urban planning and the development of urban life. The conquerors not only destroyed, but also contributed to the revival and construction of new cities, which became centers of trade, artisanship and culture.
The section on cultural exchange and influence was particularly interesting. The audience learned about how Mongolian culture, with its unique customs, beliefs, and administrative practices, influenced the conquered peoples. The example of Volga Bulgaria shows how the Bulgars who came under Mongol rule adapted new elements to their lives. This was evident in their architecture, language, trade relations and even some aspects of government, demonstrating a complex and multifaceted process of cultural assimilation and interaction.
14 people attended the lecture.
