On April 22, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve M.N. Rogachyova for 23 students of the 6th grade of Gymnasium No. 9 in Tolyatti, Samara Region, held the event “Architecture is the chronicle of the world” as part of the project “Culture for Schoolchildren”, dedicated to the International Day of Monuments and Historical Sites (World Heritage Day).
During the event, the students visited the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization and the Bolgar settlement where they learned about the history of the ancient city of Bolgar and the unique architectural monuments from the 13th and 14th centuries. They also learned that Peter the Great issued the first decree to preserve the ancient buildings in 1722 when he wrote a letter to the governor of Kazan. Today, these buildings are protected by UNESCO as a historical and archaeological complex. The children participated with great interest in the proposed tasks on the knowledge of history and architecture, tried themselves as restorers – from the bulky wooden fragments assembled models of monuments. On this day, the schoolchildren learned a lot of new and interesting things from the past life of Bolgar city, added to the baggage of their knowledge on history, received a lot of vivid impressions, and the most active received a gift album about the ancient city and maps-schemes of the Bolgar settlement.
