On March 30, during the spring holidays, 16 schoolchildren from the city of Murmansk participated in the event “Journey to Great Bolgar” as part of the “Pushkin Card” project. During the excursion program, the children visited the “Bolgar Tea Party” museum where they enjoyed freshly baked pancakes and tea made from local herbs. Everyone was able to try baking pancakes and participate in a master class on making “bal-may.” Together with the guide, the students also made a tour of the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization. There, the children saw a rich collection of archaeological finds that tell the story of the development and formation of our region from ancient times to the present day.
One of the highlights of the museum visit was the craft area where the students felt like they were masters and artisans. They participated in workshops on basket weaving, making a patchwork doll, painting souvenirs, working on a loom and a potter’s wheel. The schoolchildren also dressed up in traditional costumes.
The program continued in the halls of the Memorial Sign where the children became acquainted with the works of the artists of our republic, saw real treasures found on the territory of the museum-reserve. A special impression was left by the inspection of the largest printed Quran in the world. Further, the children walked around the territory of the central settlement of the ancient Bolgar city, examined the unique monuments of medieval architecture included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
At the end of the program, the guide gave the students souvenir books as a memento.
The “Pushkin Card” is a very important and timely project that allows young people to become familiar with cultural values.
