On March 19, 2026, an employee of the excursion management department of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve V.N. Glavnova conducted a museum lesson “Bolgar – light from the past” for 20 students of Bolgar secondary school No. 1 and Bolgar boarding school for children with disabilities.
During the museum lesson, students took an exciting journey through the pages of the history of the medieval state of Volga-Kama Bulgaria, which existed from X to XIII centuries on the territory of the modern Middle Volga region. The students visited the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization where they got acquainted with the archaeological objects found on the territory of the ancient city, conducted improvised excavations themselves with great interest and found “ancient artifacts”. At the exhibition of paintings in the Memorial Sign, the children got acquainted with the works of many famous artists of the Republic of Tatarstan, revealing the history of the creation of a new state from the time when the ancestors of the Volga Bulgars first settled on the banks of the Great Volga. The children’s attention was particularly attracted by the vivid paintings dedicated to an important historical event – the visit of the famous Arab traveler Ahmed ibn Fadlan to Bolgar in 922, after which Islam was proclaimed the official religion of Volga Bulgaria. At the end, the students saw the largest printed Quran, which is listed in the Guinness Book of Records. The children received souvenirs and took photos as a keepsake.
