March 4, 2025. Informative-entertaining event “Pancake Shrovetide, the birthday girl of spring”.

On March 4, employees of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve V.N. Glavnova and M.N. Rogachyova for 15 pupils of the 5th grade of Bolgar cadet boarding school held an informative and entertaining event “Pancake Shrovetide, the birthday girl of spring” in the framework of the All-Russian action “Folk Culture for Schoolchildren”.
Maslenitsa is one of the most cheerful holidays of the year, which is widely celebrated throughout Russia. All Pancake Day traditions are aimed at chasing away winter and waking up nature from its sleep. At the event, schoolchildren got acquainted with the history of the holiday, learned where the tradition of celebrating Pancake Day came from to Russia, why the holiday is so called, and what symbolize the pancakes, scarecrow, which is accepted to burn on Pancake Day. Children became acquainted with traditions and customs of this holiday, solved riddles, read poems, actively participated in games and contests. The event ended with a tea party with pancakes.
