On November 18, the whole world marks the International Day of Islamic Art. The decision to celebrate was made at the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference in 2019. The aim of the celebration is to raise awareness of past and contemporary forms of artistic expression of Islam, as well as the contribution of culture to civilization through Islamic creativity. At the same time, the International Day of Islamic Art promotes cultural diversity, freedom of expression, protection of cultural heritage and intercultural dialog.
On the World Day of Islamic Art, it is especially important to visit exhibitions that reveal unknown pages of the history of Muslim civilization, to visit museums with entire halls dedicated to the beauty and splendor of Muslim art, which originated many centuries ago.
Within the framework of the celebration of the Day of Islamic Art on November 17, a research assistant of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Musina G. M. held an event “Islamic art in the modern world” for 11 students of Bolgar sanatorium boarding school. The children visited the Koran Museum where they learned about Islam and the main book of Muslims – the Koran. During a short lecture, they actively discussed types of art and found its reflection in the halls of the museum exposition. The children asked many questions and shared their knowledge. Also within the framework of the meeting, the pupils examined the largest printed Koran in the world.
