On November 11, 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve D.P. Hramov held for the visitors an informative event “The development of science in Volga Bulgaria” timed to the World Science Day.
In the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization, the participants of the event got acquainted with the history of the ancient state of Volga Bulgaria, and also learned that the strong relations of Volga Bulgaria with the countries of the East laid the foundation for close contacts in the field of science and culture. Bulgar scientists, having returned home after studying in scientific and cultural centers of the East, wrote the works on an example of works of the eastern teachers, made comments to their works, spread their scientific ideas in the state. The largest scientific centers of the country were the cities of Bulgar, Suvar and Saksin. The most educated part of the population were theologians, preachers, judges and state officials. Such sciences as mathematics, astronomy, chemistry, medicine, geography and history received considerable development in Volga Bulgaria.
In the exposition of the museum, the guests saw the preserved writing utensils of XIII-XIV centuries and lists of works of the Volga Bulgaria period, including the list of the world-famous poem “The Tale of Yusuf” authored by the Bulgar medieval poet Kul Gali.
15 people attended the event.
