On October 17, 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Bitunova Yu. A. for 17 students of Bolgar secondary school № 1 read a lecture “Our city in the distant past”.
The lecture was held with the purpose of forming interest in the younger generation to study the history of cultural and historical heritage of the native land, respect for their small homeland, expanding the outlook of students. The city as a complex phenomenon of the historical process reflects all sides and features of the development of society. In 1781, by decree of Catherine II Spassk received the status of uyezd town of Kazan viceroyalty. In 1935-1957 years, Spassk existed under the name of Kuibyshev. In 1957, the town was flooded as a result of creation of Kuibyshev water reservoir, and a new settlement called Kuibyshev was laid out. In 1991, the town of Kuibyshev was renamed into the town of Bolgar. Today the relocated city is revived, attracting more and more attention of tourists. Turning points in the history of the city changed its location, its name, but did not change the spirit of the people. It is important that people living in the territory of the former Spassky uyezd do not forget the history of the city of Spassk – now the city of Bolgar.
