On October 8, 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Galimullina N.R. for 11 students of Bolgar sanatorium boarding school held an event on “Architectural heritage of Ancient Bolgar” timed to coincide with the World Day of Architecture, which is celebrated annually on the first Monday of October.
The Bolgar Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, the world’s northernmost monument of medieval Muslim architecture, is a unique and the only example of Bolgar architecture of XIV century. Unparalleled in the world, it is especially valuable as a historical monument that bears witness to such vanished states as Volga Bulgaria and the Golden Horde. The buildings of each historical period are characterized by their own special features. The formation of urban planning skills of the Bulgars had a centuries-old history and developed under the influence of many cultural origins. Bulgar urban culture absorbed architectural principles and achievements of many other nations.
During the event, the children visited such monuments of XIV century as the Black and White Chambers, became acquainted with the unique architecture of the ancient city and the peculiarities of construction in that distant time. The children compared our monuments with the architecture of other nations – Tura Khan’s mausoleum in Bashkiria and Rukhabad mausoleum in Samarkand. Schoolchildren in a competitive, playful form put together the models of monuments from wooden parts, answered the questions of the quiz, thus strengthening the acquired knowledge about the uniqueness of the Bulgar stone architecture.
