October 4, 2024. Information and cognitive event “Medicine of ancient Bolgar”.

On October 4, 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirova L.A. held for 12 guests an information and cognitive event “Medicine of ancient Bolgar”.
Written sources allow to present Volga Bulgaria as one of the medieval centers of development of scientific knowledge including medicine, natural science and pharmacology. The physicians of Bolgar and their scientific works were widely known and popular throughout the Muslim world. The formation and development of the traditions of medicine in the Middle Volga region took place in close connection with major Islamic cultural centers, and it can be regarded as an integral part of Muslim science. Archaeological studies confirm this fact and testify to the presence in Volga Bulgaria of developed crafts related to science and medicine.
Preserved medical works and material culture objects discovered during archaeological research, as well as living traditions of folk medicine, are valuable sources for studying the peculiarities of the spread of natural-scientific knowledge in Volga Bulgaria and the history of the development of medical science among the Tatar people.
The event was held in the museum “Healer’s House” where the guests saw authentic instruments, accessories of ancient healers and books on healing. Also a quiz was prepared, in which the guests actively participated and received memorable gifts.
