September 28-29, 2024. Festival “Bolgar. Journey to the past”.

On September 28-29, 2024, on the territory of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve took place a historical festival “Bolgar. Journey to the past”.
Two days of spectacular duels, children’s playground, archery tournament, master classes on medieval crafts, historical fair, theatrical performances, rousing dances and live music. Several venues were open for guests, where everyone could plunge into the atmosphere of the middle ages. The festival grounds were divided into four historical periods – Volga Bulgaria, Golden Horde, Kazan Khanate and Russian State. The central event of the whole festival was thematic battles of reenactors of Moscow reiters of XVII century, cavalrymen of a new formation with firearms. Reenactors appeared before the audience in the image of European musketeers. This is the beauty of armor, crazy beauty of costumes. A historical kitchen was prepared for the guests. Spectators were able to make flour, sift, bake a flatbread and try it.
This year, for the first time, the festival was complemented by the “Volga Unites” business forum for the leading enterprises of the tourism industry and specialized ministries.
Both days of the festival concluded with concerts by folk bands. On September 28, the traditional fire fairy tale took place.
The festival “Bolgar. Journey to the past” found an echo in the heart of everyone who loves active family recreation, travel and history.
