On September 28, 2024, a researcher Muhametshin I.D. delivered a lecture “Bulgarians in Europe” for the visitors of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve. At the lecture, the listeners learned the history of the appearance of the Bulgar tribes in Europe during the Great Migration of Peoples. Procopius of Caesarea wrote that Huns included Bulgarian tribes, and first of all, Kutrigurs. Arrival in Europe of Avars even more united this union led by new nomads.
Already by the end of VI century, on pages of the Byzantium chronicles, after some break, Bulgars appeared again. In the beginning of VII century, Bulgars are mentioned in annals necessarily next to Avars, as their subjects. In VII century, Bulgarians under leadership of Asparuh came on Danube and defeated Byzantium armies. Thus was the beginning of the statehood of the Bulgarians in Europe.
17 people attended the lecture.
