On 27 September 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L.I. for 21 guests held an event ‘Tourism is a world open to all’ timed to coincide with the Tourism Day.
During the event, the guests learnt the history of the World Tourism Day, which started in 1925 in The Hague. The holiday was established in 1979 during the UNWTO Assembly. The date was not chosen by chance – nine years earlier, on 27 September 1970, the World Tourism Organization adopted the Charter, which it is still guided by. It is also believed that the holiday is timed to coincide with the end of the tourist season in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning in the Southern Hemisphere. Thomas Cook opened the world’s first travel agency 183 years ago, in 1841.
More than 150 countries celebrate the holiday. Since 1997, Tourism Day has had a different host country every year. Since 2006, the following order has been established: Europe – South Asia – North and South America – Africa – East Asia and the Pacific Ocean – Middle East.
Russia also celebrates World Tourism Day, and in 2024, this tradition will be 41 years old. Every year the motto of the holiday is chosen. In 2024, the central theme was ‘Tourism and Peace’, and Georgia became the host country. The official color of World Tourism Day is blue.
During the event, tourists visited the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization, the Museum of Koran and saw the preserved architectural monuments.
