On 16 August 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Bitunova Yu. A. held an event on ‘From the depths of centuries’ for 20 guests of the museum.
The history of the ancient capital of Volga Bulgaria is more than a thousand years. During this time, the princes of Ancient Russia, the khans of the Golden Horde and the rulers of the Russian Empire have been here. For the preservation of the Bolgar settlement, the most important was the visit of the Russian Emperor Peter the Great in May 1722. On the way to the Persian campaign, he visited and examined the ruins of the buildings. He was shocked by the grandeur of the ancient city and its oriental architecture, ordered to collect and translate epitaphs with Bulgar and Armenian inscriptions, to protect the Bolgar ruins as a historical monument. Bolgar influenced the appearance of the first decree on the preservation of architectural monuments in the history of Russia, signed by Peter I on 2 June 1722.
During the event, the tourists received information about the visit of Emperor Peter I to the ancient city of Bolgar, got acquainted with the architectural monuments of XIII-XIV centuries preserved on the territory of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve.
