On 14 March 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Bitunova Yu. A. for 12 students of Bolgar sanatorium boarding school gave a lecture “Maslenitsa – the history of the holiday”.
Maslenitsa is one of the most cheerful holidays of the year, which is widely celebrated throughout Russia. It reflects centuries-old traditions, carefully kept and passed from generation to generation. It is a weeklong holiday – a ritual with round dances, songs, games, dedicated to saying goodbye to winter and welcoming spring. In Russia, it has long been customary to celebrate the change of seasons. Our ancestors honored the sun as God because it gave life to everything. Therefore, the arrival of spring was especially rejoiced, and it was necessary to celebrate it.
During the lecture, the children watched a presentation, learnt about the traditions of Shrovetide celebrations, and at the end of the lesson, they actively solved riddles.
