On 8 February 2024, the employees of the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization T.G. Zarifullina, T.P. Kamayeva and V.A. Salnikova held an information and educational event on “How science helps us in life” dedicated to the Day of Russian Science. The event was conducted for 18 pupils of the 7th grade of Bolgar secondary school No. 1.
For a quarter of a century, since 8 February 1999, the Day of Russian Science is celebrated. It is the day of scientists – physicists, historians, chemists, archaeologists, astronomers, programmers, medics. It is the day of inventors and discoverers. The purpose of science is to learn new, previously unknown things about the world around us and to use this knowledge for the benefit of people. Every day we see things around us that we are used to. We do not even think about how much labor was invested to invent them. The telephone, the car, the Internet, the pen – all these things appeared thanks to a person who came up with an idea and successfully implemented it. More often than not, that person is a scientist.
Humankind has stepped far ahead on the path of progress. Many Russian scientists have made a huge contribution to world science. These are M.V. Lomonosov, D.I. Mendeleev, I.P. Pavlov, K.E. Tsiolkovsky, I.V. Kurchatov, S.P. Korolev, A.S. Popov and many others. One of the last scientists from Russia who received the Nobel Prize is K.S. Novosyolov for pioneering experiments on the study of two-dimensional material graphene in 2010.
The children learnt about the history of the Russian Science Day, shared their knowledge about famous Russian scientists, about modern science, about the fact that 2024 in Tatarstan was declared the year of scientific and technological development. The schoolchildren actively participated in the quiz “I want to know everything!”, and in conclusion, they watched the video film “Achievements of modern science”.
