On 17 January 2024, at the exhibition ground of the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization took place the opening of the exhibition “History of one object. The warm light of an ancient lamp” where from the funds of the museum-reserve was presented an exhibit – a ceramic lamp of XIII-XIV centuries. In general, lamps were the subject of pottery production. Oil lamps were practically the only lighting devices in enclosed spaces: in every dwelling house, in an artisan’s workshop, in a merchant’s shop.
A typical lamp is a vessel that consists of a small rounded receptacle. Archaeological findings testify to the fact that lamps are the oldest invention of humankind – the very first lamps appeared in prehistoric times.
