September 18, 2023. Kazan University Astronomical Observatory was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

On September 18, 2023, the 45th enlarged session of the World Heritage Committee held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, decided to inscribe the Astronomical Observatories of Kazan University on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The work to promote the observatories of Kazan Federal University to the World Heritage List has been carried out since 2019 with the assistance of the Republican Renaissance Foundation under the leadership of Mintimer Shaimiev, State Counselor of the Republic of Tatarstan and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
This is the fourth World Heritage Site on the territory of Tatarstan. The idea to include the V. Engelhardt Astronomical Observatory in the UNESCO List was first put forward in 2009.
The nomination dossier “Astronomical Observatories of Kazan University” included the Engelhardt Country Observatory of KFU and the observatory located in the courtyard of the main building of the university.
The Director of Bolgar Museum-Reserve R.R. Ziganshin takes part in the session as part of the Russian delegation from the Republic of Tatarstan.
