May 21, 2023. A solemn event “Izge Bolgar zhiyeny”.

A traditional large-scale celebration event “Izge Bolgar zhiyeny” dedicated to the Day of official adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria took place on May 21, 2023 on the territory of Bolgar Museum-Reserve. The event attracts tens of thousands of people from all over the country and many compatriots from abroad. The official opening ceremony was held on stage in front of the Memorial Sign with participation of R. Minnikhanov, Head of the Republic of Tatarstan. The solemn ceremony was also attended by delegates from federal subjects of the Russian Federation, representatives of Spiritual Administrations of Russian and foreign Muslims, representatives of Muslim communities from different parts of the country and the Muslim world and participants of the XIV International Economic Forum “Russia – the Islamic World: Kazan Forum 2023”. After the official opening of the holiday, the midday prayer was held at the Cathedral Mosque.
A number of events took place during the celebration. In the morning, a bright cultural and educational program was presented on the main stage of the festival. There was an interactive site “History of writing” in the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization where the guests learned about the peculiarities of Tatar script, pen and calligraphy in the middle ages.
An exhibition of original relics of the Prophet Muhammad continued its work in the Memorial Sign. The exposition presented valuable objects that belonged to the Prophet Muhammad, his family and associates. The items were collected from different Islamic centers around the world including Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
The finals of the belt wrestling competition “koresh” were held. Also at the festival worked a fair of products of folk arts and crafts from all over Russia.
During the day, all the objects of Bolgar Museum-Reserve welcomed guests of the holiday.
