May 19, 2023. An informative and educational event on “The Volga-Mother River”.

On May 19, 2023, a staff member of the excursion department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve V. N. Glavnova held for 30 pupils of grades 5-6 of Bolgar cadet boarding school an informative and educational event on “The Volga-Mother River” (Volga Day).
Volga! For centuries, it has been a symbol of greatness and beauty, resistance and invincibility of the Russian people. With great love, the Volga has long been called the people’s beauty, the people’s breadwinner. Every inch of land, through which the Volga flows, is associated with historical events from ancient times to the modern era.
The Volga is the largest river in Europe in terms of length, water content and basin area. There are 15 regions of Russia and 4 cities “millionaires” on the banks of the Volga. It gives life, shelter and food to all who live on its banks – people, birds and animals. In 2008, a special holiday on May 20 – Volga Day – was introduced as a sign of sincere respect to the river.
The event was accompanied by a presentation about the Great Volga River and the people who live on its banks. Children with great interest took part in a quiz, showed their knowledge, watched a video about the river and listened to songs performed by L. Zykina and S. Samarina.
