Glassware

In the Middle Ages, glass was a unique high-tech product that required from craftsmen serious preparations, indisputable skills and knowledge of craft traditions. The technology of its production was not available to everyone.

The production of Bulgarian glass was inseparable from the glassmaking of the entire Islamic world, which stretched from the Pyrenees in the South-West of Europe to the borders of China. The whole glass set of Bulgarian era products is present in all countries of the Islamic world. The main products were tableware, glass beads and bracelets, window glass, technical vessels and lamps.

Collections of glass in the Bolgar State Museum-Reserve funds were found mainly at Suvar and Bolgar archaeological sites. These are fragments of beads, bracelets, rings, window glass, vessels and imported glass that confirms the existence of diverse trade relations.
