On 24 September 2021, a staff member of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirova L. A. held an interactive event on “Harvest festival. Autumn holiday” for minor children – the recipients of social services.
Autumn holiday is celebrated on 21 September. It is connected with the day of autumn equinox, which falls on the last decade of September, and people since ancient times attached great importance to it. It has always been considered that on this day autumn finally takes its rights. Our ancestors began to celebrate harvest festival in ancient Russia. They said good-bye to summer and greeted autumn with joy on that day. This holiday is dedicated to the harvest, fertility and family well-being. By that time, fieldwork was finished: reaping, taking bread to barns, flax harvesting. So, a basis was laid for family well-being for next year. Visual materials – natural fruits and vegetables – were used for the celebration of the holiday.
At the event, children became acquainted with the history of emergence of the holiday, with traditions and folk superstitions. They actively participated in games and contests, made a necklace of a rowan tree, a crown of the leaves and much more. At the end of the activity, the king and the queen of autumn were chosen, and, of course, everybody received commemorative gifts.
