On 8 April 2021, a research associate of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Muhametshin D.G. held a lecture on «The history of Spassk-Kuybyshev» for the participants of the club «University of the Third Age». Staff members of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Muhametshin I.D. and Hramova G.K. offered the audience interesting lectures.
The lecture of I.D. Muhametshin was devoted to the history of the flooded town of Spassk-Kuibyshev. Our town was founded in 1781. Now it is partly underwater. Many buildings were moved to the place of a new town and retain their history. In Spassk, there was a pedagogical school, a hospital and many other institutions. Now Spassky Reserve is there but lovers of antiquities still visit the Old town.
Hramova G.K. illuminated another important page of the history. The famine of 1921-1922 had a great influence on life of the inhabitants of the Middle Volga region. Many people were displaced, and thousands starved to death. In addition, there was a typhoid epidemic. Various measures were taken in the fight against hunger. Public canteens appeared, and for the first time the Soviet government accepted help from capitalist countries.
As D.G. Muhametshin emphasized, the tragic pages of history of our province go through all families being reflected in folk memory of many generations.
