On 6 April 2021, a research associate of the museum and education department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Krivosheyeva S. V. held an interactive lesson on “Protecting antiquity” for the students of the 6th grade of Bolgar sanatorium-type residential school.
From ancient times, great attention was given to the protection of monuments. At the lesson, children knew that Peter I visited Bolgar in 1722 and ordered to protect ancient monuments. After Katherine II visited Bolgar in June 1767, the ruins of the ancient town became a research subject. In the first half of XIX century, the ruins constantly attracted attention. In 1816, a professor of Kazan University F. H. Erdman described and drew them. The architect of Kazan province A. K. Schmidt in 1827 did thorough measurements, made plans of all fortifications, buildings and ruins following them by drawings.
At the event, the students became acquainted with the history of ancient town and assessed their level of knowledge on the history of Volga Bulgaria.
