On 25 March 2021, the head of museum and educational department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Vagapov R. Z. held an interactive lesson on “Nowruz – New Year” for the participants of a spring school camp of Bolgar comprehensive school №2.
At the event, kids learned about the holiday Nowruz, its emergence and meaning in the life of peoples. The word “Nowruz” is derived from two ancient Persian roots: “now” – new and “ruz” – day. On 22 March, on the Spring Equinox Day, constellations and stars after a one-year cycle come to the point of their initial location and start a new circle. It is considered that nature wakes up on that day, goodness comes down to earth, and no evil spirits can enter people’s homes.
Like many folk holidays, Nowruz was celebrated with fun, and games took an important place. During the event, the students also actively participated in spring games where they showed their agility, skill and ingenuity.
At the end of the event, children had a master class in origami where they learned to make of paper the main symbol of Nowruz – a tulip. Kids got a boost of energy, good mood and commemorative gifts.
