On 25 January 2021, a staff member of the department “Museum Street” of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Bitunova Y. A. held a lecture on “Tatiana Day” for the students of Spassky College of sectoral technology. The lesson was devoted to the Students’ Day.
There are two holidays in our country on 25 January – women with the name of Tatiana celebrate their Name day, and all Russia celebrates the Students’ Day! The history of this day began in XVIII century. On 25 (12) January 1755, Empress Elizabeth signed a decree about the establishment of Moscow University supporting the initiative of Count Shuvalov and Mikhail Lomonosov. So, Tatiana Day at first was celebrated as the birthday of the university, and later as the holiday of Russian students. Since then, Saint Tatiana is considered the patron of students and teachers. The holiday of Russian students was officially approved by the decree of Russian President No.76 from 25 January 2005 “About the Day of Russian students”. In 2007, was signed a federal act under which the Day of Russian students became one of commemorative days of Russia.
At the lecture, the students became acquainted with the history of the holiday and learned how students celebrate this day in other countries of the world.
