On 26 November 2020, in Bolgar Museum-Reserve staff members of the departments “Museum Street” and Guided Tours Organization Sagirova G., Kutbutdinova Z., Khabibullin R., Hramova G. and Safina R. held an interactive event on “Kaz omese is a decoration of the native land” (a holiday of white feathers) for the students of Bolgar sanatorium-type residential school. The activity took place in the museum of Abdulla Alish where kids had a real theatrical performance.
This holiday goes deep into the past. Since long ago in late autumn, usually with the first freezing-over the residents of Tatar villages held a collective processing of goose meat, feather and down. People made goose-down pillows and blankets. Brushes to grease pastry were made of goose wings.
Staff members of the museum-reserve recreated a picture of this national holiday reflecting original elements of the unique action in national costumes. The event was accompanied by national songs, dances and games. Children learned to tie brushes from goose feathers and to make goose-down pillows. “Kaz omese” is one of many traditional Tatar holidays, which needs to be preserved and passed on to future generations. At the end of the event, there was a tea party with tasting a national dish from goose – kaz baleshe (a goose pie).
