On 5 September 2020, a staff member of Museum Street of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sagirova G. Y. held an event on “The history of the origin of tea” in the museum of “Bolgar tea party”.
The history of the appearance of tea is full of mysteries. There are various legends about its origin. There still exist many contentious facts about this tasty drink. China is considered the birthplace of the plant. It was there that tea plants were grown in the fifth millennium BC. At first tea was used not for making beverages but as antidote. Over time, it became a drink of aristocrats. In different countries, peoples have their own myths and legends about the origin of the drink. In Russia, tea allegedly appeared in 1567. In that year, Cossack atamans visited the territory of China. From there they brought an interesting story that Orientals had an unusual ritual where an unknown but delicious drink was served. There is another version of the appearance of tea in Russia. According to it, Tsar Mikael Romanov went on an expedition and visited China. After that, he received a present from Chinese ambassadors. It was a few boxes with unknown leaves. This souvenir was sent to cooks but they did not know what to make of them. They tried to make soup but it was tasteless even with seasoning. In later times, they came up with the idea of making tea of leaves. A drink was great and won the hearts of its fans.
The visitors of the event became familiar with traditions of tea party of the Volga Tatars, learned about the history of the origin of tea culture and its links with the history of the region since the middle ages.
