On 3 September 2020, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Gaifutdinova O.A. held for the guests of the museum an event on “Life is a moment” dedicated to the Day of solidarity in the fight against terrorism.
Terrorism is one of the most dangerous and extensive threats to human life. Belief militants and fanatics-suicide bombers do not just kill and maim. In their willingness to have power they arrange the public outcry by all means. They try to influence people’s psychological state. To counteract this violent ideology a memorable date was established in the Russian Federation.
3 September is a day of mourning for all victims of terrorist attacks and those who died doing their duty during rescue operations. On the Day of solidarity in the fight against terrorism, Russians bring flowers to monuments and memorials to victims of the terrorists. They take part in funeral marches and events remembering all victims. It reflects the cohesion of society and state against violent ideology, which is the threat of international concern.
The commemorative date is intrinsically linked to the September tragedy of 2004 in Beslan when the Day of knowledge became the day of mourning and grief for many people. During the holiday line devoted to 1 September, militants broke into the school and took teachers, children and their relatives as hostages. Bandits captured 1128 people for three days. During a horrible terrorist attack, more than 350 people died (150 children, women, military personnel were among them) and over 500 were injured. During operations to free hostages, 31 terrorists were killed and 1 was arrested. The death toll was 1% of city’s population.
The Day of solidarity in the fight against terrorism is marked in the Russian Federation on 3 September every year. Thanks to President of Russia V. Putin, on 21 July 2005 it was added to the list of commemorative dates by an amendment to the Federal Act №32-FA “About the days of military glory of Russia” from 13 March 1995.
At the event, the guests of the museum-reserve listened to the information about the commemorative day and knew how people remember the victims of terrorist attacks not only in Beslan but also throughout the country.
