On 9 July 2020, a research associate of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Hramova G.K. held for a group of tourists an interactive and knowledge event on “Architecture of Volga Bulgaria”.
The study of the architecture of Volga Bulgaria is of great importance because the state played a significant role in the development of architectural appearance of modern cities located in its territory. Therefore, without awareness of architecture of Volga Bulgaria the advantages of cities in which we live cannot be fully understood. The history of peoples was expressed not only in the development of economy, political events, in spiritual and artistic activities of people but also in architectural heritage. Architecture is always in step with history.
Masters from the Middle East and Transcaucasia played a particular role in the establishment and further development of Bulgar architectural and construction school including the building of the places of worship. However, it is worth noting that all architectural canons obeyed directly the system of Bulgar architectural school based on local climatic, natural, architectural and construction specificities.
During the event, the participants became acquainted with the history of ancient town of Bolgar and architectural monuments of XIII-XIV centuries. The guests visited the ruins of Cathedral mosque, the Northern and Eastern mausoleums and the Eastern chamber (Bolgar bathhouse) preserved on the territory of Bolgar town. The tourists knew when and why these buildings were erected and what materials were used during the construction. They were able to see all the beauty of medieval architecture of Bolgar.
