On 13 March 2020, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Muhamedov V. A. held a lecture on “The space station Mir” for the students of the 7th grades of Bolgar sanatorium-type residential school.
Since humanity began, people strove for stars. For the first people space was something far away, unclear and inconceivable. People made up gods of the sun and stars to have any explanation of the secrets of heavens. But progress has not stopped, and in time, people more and more lifted the veil of secrecy of a blue sky and understood what the sun, stars and planets were. Then a man as a highly cognitive and adventurous creature wanted to go beyond Earth and get into space. A great Russian scientist Tsiolkovsky, the founder of theoretical astronautics said: “Earth is a cradle of humanity but it is not possible to stay in the cradle forever”. To our pride, soviet people were to be the pioneers, cosmic “Columbus”. Gagarin, Leonov, Tereshkova and other cosmonauts wrote their illustrious names in pages of history forever. Even after them, the development of space did not stop. The first space station Mir, a missile N-1 of extraordinary size, a shuttle “Buran” were created. This was exactly what the students learned many interesting things about – the later period of the development of space activities.
During the lecture, the kids knew about the astronautics development in USSR in 1970-1990, about the heroes of that epoch and challenges on the way of our scientists, engineers, cosmonauts and how they solved these problems. The children also learned how the space age ended. They actively participated in discussion and asked many questions, so expressed great interest in the past of their country.
