On 21 February 2020, a research associate of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Hramova G.K. held a lecture on “International Tourist Guide Day” for the students of the 6th grade of Bolgar Comprehensive School №1.
On 21 February every year, many cities of the world, especially those that are the centers of tourism, celebrate International Tourist Guide Day. It was set by the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA). The purpose was raising awareness of the general public about importance and significance of guides’ work.
WFTGA was formed in 1985 at the first International Convention of tour guides, and today over 2 million people from more than 70 countries of the world are the members of this organization. The holiday is celebrated from 1990.
There is no way to tell for sure when this profession appeared, but obviously that it is connected with the development of international relations. Since people began to travel actively and visit different cities and countries, it was hard to do without help of professional guides.
The students listened attentively to information on the subject and with pleasure watched a colorful presentation about the work of Bolgar Museum-Reserve. Then the kids talked lively, asked many questions, and some of them expressed their interest in the profession of a guide.
