On July 22, 2019, the opening ceremony of the third international camp “Volunteers of the world heritage of Bolgar”was held in the conference hall of the Memorial sign of the Bulgarian Museum-reserve. It is attended by students and young archaeologists from 11 countries – Russia, Bangladesh, France, Germany, Iran, Spain, Kazakhstan, Canada, Poland, Taiwan, Switzerland.
The day of Tatarstan guests began with a visit to the museums of the Bulgarian reserve. Volunteers could learn more about Islam as a religion of this place in the Bulgarian Museum of the Koran. In addition, the camp participants were able to see with their own eyes the largest edition of Scripture, which got into the Guinness Book of records. The volunteers also visited the Museum of Bulgarian civilization and walked through the ancient settlement, getting acquainted with the architectural monuments of the XIII-XIV centuries.
The participants were divided into 3 groups, each of which works in the following areas: archaeological excavations, archaeological collections, interpretation of heritage (shooting videos).
The UNESCO world heritage Volunteers initiative was established in 2008 to engage young people in the conservation and development of world heritage sites around the world.
During 2008-2018, the initiative held 359 volunteer camps in 61 countries of the world at 142 world heritage sites with the participation of more than 3,500 volunteers.
