July 12, 2019 an employee of the organization Department of the city of BGIAMZ V. N. Panovoj in the Museum of Bolgar civilization for tourists from Kazan held the Museum lesson “Courage guards tank army”, dedicated to the biggest in the world war II tank battle between Soviet and German armies near the village of Prokhorovka in 1943. The purpose of this event – to show the examples of heroic defenders of the Motherland manifestation of such qualities as perseverance, heroism, courage, mercy, faith in a bright future in the name of life.
To stop the enemy attack and defeat its compounds, July 12, N. F. Vatutin decided to strike a powerful counterattack on the German positions. Under the station Prokhorovka was the largest in the entire second world war counter-battle in which both sides simultaneously participated 1500 tanks and self-propelled guns. During the day of battle, the warring parties lost from 30 to 60% of tanks and ACS each. 12 July 1943 was the turning point in the battle of Kursk, the enemy stopped the attack and began to withdraw its forces to its original position. Tank battle near Prokhorovka finally buried Hitler’s operation “Citadel”.
During the Museum lesson, the guests got acquainted with the history of the tank battle, learned the names of the heroes who distinguished themselves in this battle. Was shown the video “the battle of Kursk. Belgorod direction”. A minute of silence ended the event dedicated to the memorable date of the battle at the Prokhorovka station.
