On June 18, at the exhibition site of the Museum of Bulgarian civilization, the exhibition “Sabantuy – a merry holiday” dedicated to the Sabantuy holiday was opened.
The word “Sabantui” is derived from the Turkic lexemes “Saban” – plough and “Tuy” – holiday. It is celebrated in June in honor of the completion of spring sowing. This event is a national and favorite, its celebration is attended by both children and adults. It is a holiday of work, health, strength and agility. It has its own customs, rituals, usually consists of various competitions, accompanied by numerous songs and dances.
Folk festival has a long history. In the old days this holiday was held in honor of the beginning of sowing. For the first time this holiday is mentioned in the notes of the Secretary of the Arab Ambassador Ibn Fadlan, from 921-922 ad, who came to the land of Bashkirs and Tatars to study their traditions, life.
The exhibition presents household items and clothing that are used for the organization of the holiday, for various competitions and games.
