May 22, 2019 researcher of the Department of excursions of the Bulgarian Museum-reserve Khramova G. K. held for students from Ulyanovsk Museum lesson on the theme: “the History of Slavic writing”, dedicated to the Day of Slavic writing and culture.
On may 24, every year all Slavic countries celebrate the Day of Slavic writing and culture. The origins of this holiday are inextricably linked with the celebration of Saints Cyril and Methodius – the enlighteners of the Slavs, the creators of the Slavic alphabet.
Cyril and Methodius composed the Slavic alphabet, translated from Greek into Slavic several liturgical books (including selected readings from the gospel, the Apostolic Epistles and the Psalter), which contributed to the introduction and dissemination of Slavic worship, as well as, based on deep knowledge of Greek and Eastern cultures and summarizing the experience of Slavic writing, the Slavs offered their alphabet.
The legacy of Cyril and Methodius had a huge impact on the culture of the Slavic States: Bulgaria (and through it – Russia and Serbia), the Czech Republic, Croatia (in the latter up to the present time preserved Glagolitic written tradition). Written language developed by Cyril and Methodius had a great influence on the development of Russian literature. In the minds of many generations of Slavs Cyril and Methodius are symbols of Slavic writing and Slavic culture. In Russia, the celebration of the feast Day of the Holy brothers goes back to the distant past and it was celebrated mainly by the Church. There was a period when under the influence of political circumstances came the oblivion of the historical merits of Cyril and Methodius, but in the XIX century this tradition was revived.
During the event, the children got acquainted with the history of this holiday and the peculiarities of its celebration in Russia. The participants of the Museum lesson got acquainted with the exposition of the Museum of Bulgarian civilization, the Museum of Turkic-Tatar writing, and also visited the architectural monuments of the Bulgarian settlement.
